Emergency Preparedness
The Mesa County Health Department is actively involved in planning to meet public health responsibilities in times of emergency or disaster. MCHD has a role in all hazards preparedness to implement policies or programs and provide health information to the public in order to prevent and mitigate public health emergencies. MCHD has a primary responsibility for responding to the health and medical needs of the public generated by a disease outbreak in Mesa County. MCHD has a supporting role in providing technical expertise and assistance to other first responders during other types of disasters in Mesa County.

In February 2009, Mesa County Health Department was recognized at the NACCHO Preparedness Summit in San Diego, CA. For meeting Project Public Health Ready (PPHR) requirements and criteria. The focus was on emergency preparedness and response (EPR).

- Strategic National Stockpile
On April 4, 2007, Mesa County Health Department hosted a meeting at the request of Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment to showcase Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) planning and preparedness progress at the regional and local level to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Division of Strategic National Stockpile (DSNS).
